Act on your ideas!

When The Creator gives you an idea, you must act on it. I remember watching Oprah’s interview with Kenny Ortega, which was about his time working with Michael Jackson. He mentions that when Michael has an idea for a song, he acts quickly on it – he is quick to record the song – and there was this time when they were busy, so he suggested that he work on his songs at a later time. And Michael responded that it was impossible because, if he didn’t record his song immediately, God would give it to Prince.

I feel that the reason why he specifically believed that it would be given to Prince is because it must have happened to him before, and he was like, “Never again!” When Kenny recalled this memory, the audience laughed, including Oprah, but I, like Michael, do believe that ideas come from a higher power. I can relate to not acting on an idea, and then suddenly seeing it brought to life.

So I once had this idea – it was during the men’s World Cup – it was the week leading up to the final match between France and Argentina, and it was a trend to give your prediction (people were giving their prediction, some even had their pets give their prediction etc.) and the day before the match I wanted to record a TikTok video saying – and I kid you not – “Argentina is going to take the lead. France will make a tie. Argentina will win on penalties. If I am right, I will be legally changing my name to ‘Raven Baxter’ because I am a psychic, and I will also be buying a lottery ticket, because what are the odds that I am right, might as well try my luck.” So tomorrow happens, when I got home, it was past half-time, and Argentina had the lead. I asked my dad and brothers who they thought would win, and they said, “Argentina, I mean, look at the score, look at the time, it is over”. I responded, “Don’t be so quick to rule out France, they will make a tie. Just wait and see.” Shortly after I said that, Mbappe scored a goal, and it was now a tie. I then said, “See, I told you so,” but my brothers and dad were so glued to the television that they didn’t even respond. Shortly after, Argentina scored again. Now they have the lead again. My dad then said, “Now it is definitely over, Argentina has won.” And I responded, “Don’t be so quick to rule out France, okay, they will make a tie again. Just watch.” When I said that, my dad and my brothers had this look on their faces like they didn’t get why I was so confident in my prediction. Shortly after, France scored again and made it a tie. My dad looked at me and said, “Hey, your prediction was right!” This voice in my head said, “Enough with your predictions. Do not mention the penalties, you will scare them, and they will accuse you of being a witch.” So, if you have watched the match, then you’ll know my prediction was correct.

I remember feeling sad that I didn’t record my video stating my prediction. Because if I did, what would have happened? Would my video have gone viral, and if it did go viral, would I have been invited to the Ellen Show? Would I have been invited to the FIFA award show and gotten a selfie with Ronaldinho? Would I have received a phone call from Charles Xavier, asking me to join the X-Men? I will never know, because I never acted on this idea. But I do not regret not acting on this idea, because it has taught me that when I do get ideas, to act on them and act on them quickly, as ideas do come from The Source, and I am just a vessel chosen to bring this idea to life, and if I don’t, God will pick someone else to do the job.
