A rant perspectives and movies/TV shows

What do the TV shows ‘Narcos’ and ‘You’ have in common? We experience these stories through the lens of the villains. And because the story is being told from the villain’s point of view, we sympathize with the. We hear their thoughts, we feel their emotions, and this is why we end up rooting for them, although we are consciously aware that they are the villains. This is also why I believe that some stories shouldn’t be told (at least not from a villain’s perspective), for example, there is a movie where Zack Efron plays the serial killer Ted Bundy. Why was that movie made? Why, from the point of view of the serial killer, instead of the victims? Why did they want us to empathize with a monster? I dunno… I just find this niche of entertainment to be disturbing.
